Help me take vista off and put back xp on , problems ....

I took vista off of my desktop and went back to xp just fine
however


on my laptop , it says it will not let the xp disc run because there is a newer version of windows on my computer, which there is , ,


how do i get vista off and xp back on

i have all the stuff i want saved on data discs , so Im wanting to completely wipe my computer clean and start again all over

I don't know if this will work, but its worth a try. Start the computer, insert the XP disk. Before it starts to read, depress the power button to turn the computer off. When it boots again, the XP Install disk should load, rather than Windows Vista. This worked for me when I tried it, but it may not for you. Try it out, and if it doesn't, please post back. I have a couple more solutions.

Use GPartEd (http://sourceforge.net/projects/gparted) to remove the Vista partition then format over it using NTFS. After that you can install using the CD as it won't be able to detect Vista, just an empty partition. You will need an ISO-burning program like DeepBurner (http://deepburner.com/) to burn the .iso file to a CD or DVD.
