help me to choose

Well, for $600 the 9800GX2 is definitely not worth $200 more over the 3870X2 in my opinion. If the price ever drops then i'd say it would be.

Some of the benchmarks above show more than double improvement over the X2. If that's not just simple driver or configuration problems, I'd say the GX2 is worth it, if you're going big.

I'd personally never get either, though. Unless they were on sale or something.

True. Actually reading the article (didn't do it) shows three things about that benchmark: Opengl rendering method was used which is funky enough as it is, very high resolution tested and anand doesn't specify how much vram the X2 has, could well be 512mb vs 1024mb. Lastly the benchmark itself was synthetic, I think.

More benchies (Ugh). Still shows a very strong lead in certain games, which keeps my opinion the same.

Tell me how legit a benchmark like this looks to you

Something is obviously going on there.

You should see and compare some individual results

LOL! Who ever did that test must have done something wrong =\. The HD3870 is about the same as an 8800GT, and and HD3870X2 would be twice as good. No? And to answer your quesiton, If you want to save $200 go for the HD3870X2 but if you want a top of the line GPU get the 9800X2.

No. :P Parallel computing is still in it's infancy, we still have a ways to go till two truly equal double the performance.

The drivers are the big problem. It's possible to see a game get zero or negative performance when adding a second, while another card with different drivers will see a fantastic boost. It's partly the way is designed as well; If developed (and optimized) on an Nvidia platform, nvidia cards will see better results.
