i just bought a new nvidia geforce 8800gt, but the problem is the screen goes blank when i start my computer after replacing the card. i dont know what the problem, as everything's find with my old graphic card. my pc specification are as follow:

OS: Windows XP
Processor: Intel core duo 2.66 GHz
PSU: 650W
RAM: 2GB

Nothing? It doesn't even show the POST? The card may be DOA (dead-on-arrival). In that case it would have to be returned. But before you come to this conclusion, make sure that you have the PCI-express power plugged into the card.

First of all, welcome to the forums!

On topic:
Heres what you need to do:

1) uninstall your original video drivers (onboard or PCI).
2) install your new card (on pci-e slot) and connect your monitor to it.
3) go to the BIOS and set the main video adapter to PCI-E (there should be Onboard, PCI and PCI-E or in some cases AGP)
4) start you comp and install the new drivers from the CD (cd that came w/8800gt)

Hope that helped :)

thanks to all reply.

i've tried ramodkk suggestion, but still not works. my old graphic card was ati radeon x1300(pci-e). maybe its DOA, as MatrixEVO said.

Uh did you make sure everything is triple checked and in the right place?

I hooked up my psu wrong at 1 spot, 1 stupid little barely noticeable mistake didn't make the pc startup. I used a volt meter and no power all because of that 1 little mistake.

when i got my graphics card i had to disable my onboard video.... now that i think about it that wouldnt be it cos your other card works... anyway just trying to throw some ideas around.

have you tried putting the 8800 into a different system?

ok, if that doesnt work then your card is probably dead. i would suggest contacting the place you brought it from and then sending it back.

no, not yet. i'll try it today. i have 2 psus:

1)405W, 27A for 12V line but no pci-e connector(i have Y-splitter)
2)650W, 16A for 12V line, with 1 pci-e connector

just wanna ask for opinion, which one of my psu is compatible with 8800gt?

but the amps supplied for 12V line just 16A, is it will be ok? as currently i'm using that one, and it didnt work. perhaps the card is dead. i need to try it to different system later.

i think you must have made a mistake.

remember to double the amps. because the psu is dual rail or whatever. at 12 volts the second one would be running at 28 A.

and i think the first one had the amps doubles already.

this probably isnt making sense. but yeah. the second one is the right one.

ok, thanks Kuzba, that leaves the only possibility is the card is dead, coz i already use the 2nd psu. i'll test it with different system, and if it doesnt work, i'll return it back. cheers!

ok i hope everything goes well.

also, make sure the system you test it in has a good enough PSU and a 6 pin pci-e connector lol
