HELP! Monitor not responding to my custom PC

Hi I have just built my first custom gaming pc, and everything went well until I unpacked the monitor. Upon setting up I realised that my monitor could only receive a d-sub VGA connection while my AMD 7870 output a DVI-I connection. I got an adapter to try and fix this problem, but now when I connect my PC with my monitor all the monitor says is "no signal", and goes into power saver mode. My Specs are:

-Monitor: LG 22EN33S
-GPU: MSI Radeon 7870
-CPU: AMD 6300 3.5GHz
-Mobo: GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3 AMD 990FX (Socket AM3+) Motherboard
-PSU: Corsair CX600
-RAM: 8GB (2*4GB) RipJaws DDR3 1600 MHz

Do you have another DVI port to test with? have you tested the VGA cable?

Well the monitor goes on, but i cannot seem to navigate the menus on the monitor itself. And my monitor only has one VGA port on the back, no HDMI or DVI

Try pressing the delete key as the computer starts up and see if the screen picks up a signal when in the bios ?

DVI port on your GPU. Not monitor sorry. Do you have the power cables connected on the GPU?

nope, nothing happened

As salvage-this stated above have you connected the pci-e power cable from your power supply to your graphics card ?

Have you double checked the graphics card is seated properly in the slot ?

yes and i tried it in a different slot

Try pressing f2 ask pc starts, some boards use f2 key to enter bios.

nope, still no signal

Do you have any other screens to test with ?

no unfortunately

I would say you need either a spare graphics card or monitor to perform further testing, do you not have an lcd tv ?

ok i tried this with my tv screen which also has a d-sub input and it too stated "no signal"

Sounds like a bad GPU. I would contact MSI to see if there are any other troubleshooting tips that they want to run you through.

If you have friends that would be nice enough to let you borrow a GPU that would also make sure that the rest of the system fires up correctly.

Did your motherboard come with an onboard speaker or an add on speaker? do you get any beep codes?

Well it is probably not monitor, leaving either faulty component, cable or adapter.

If you have an lcd tv to use, try connecting pc to tv via an hdmi cable.

i was pretty paranoid and careful around the GPU as it was the most expensive item, so do you think it was DOA?
