Help my gfx is messed up!

Well, One day, my graphics card decided to start placing purple lines on my screen. So, i cleaned it and nothing. I tried reinstalling the drivers, updating them, but nothing. Now when i restard my pc the graphics card places purple lines everywhere, loads windows and then the ati driver say that the hardware has stopped responding and that windows needs to reboot.

Is it my graphics card that is dead, or is there something i can do to try to fix this?

;'< i had hope cause well it displayed an image and well my friend told me that it could just be something minimal. Sux that things go boom =/

Well you could make sure that the cord was plugged in correctly, and that the card is seated properly. It doesn't sound like a driver problem to me.. Have you overclocked it?

i overclocked it once, and it was stable. But i figured that i didn't need the performance boost and it ran way too hot =/ so im like w.e i turned it back to stock.

That wouldn't make a difference..

If you're in the market for a new one you can give me your socket type and budget and I'll find something that would fit. :D

same thing happened to my radeon 9800 quite a while ago. All i did is check, and it turned out the stock ati fan wasn't spinning, so i simply bought a zalman vga fan and it worked fine without the lines again.

hmm...

well when i have it in, it automatically starts with the artifacts. But it could be that. Is there any way i can test to see? I don't really wanna buy a fan just to find out that i'ts still my gfx card. Oh and btw i used everest Ultimate edition to check the temperature. As soon as windows was up and running my GPU temp was at 46 and GPU Ambient at 42.

Have you OC'ed the CPU at all?

My old 7900GS had artifacts all over the place, even when booting, if you've tried OC'ing and didn't lock the PCI-e bus to 100Mhz then it may of OC'ed that too, by too much and that's what it's getting crazy lines and such.

well, i oced it with ati tray tools, ummm, i also tried it in another pc and it still get's the crazy lines =/

Ok, so it isn't fried through OC'ing, or too much voltage through it.

How long have you had the card and what is it, it may just be on the way out through age?

Is it not under warranty still?
Try another GPU if you can, see if it does the same thing...

It sounds as if it's on it's way out. Is it not overheating? Is it hot to the touch>

well, as soon as i boot it has the messed up lines, and it lasts about 5 minutes before the whole thing just reboots. umm i remember when it worked fine it used to be pretty hot to the touch but not unbearable,

How how is it now, too hot to touch?
The computer reboots too? I don't really know, my only suggestion is to try another card and see if it does the same thing.

You've tried it in another computer and it did the same thing, which leads me to think that it's on it's way out, but then it's only like a year old, which is strange!
