Ok so i'm not actually sure if this is a hard or saofware problem but here goes anyway

this has happened twice once last night once a week ago:
i have got to the profile load screen ( i have XP btw) loaded my profile, and then my wallpaper has shown up, but thats as far as it goes, no taskbar or shortcuts show up and then i hear a weird beeping noise coming from the computer (although to be honest im not sure if that happens normally as my computer is fairly loud anyway)

so i tried loading another profile after turning off at the power point (not good idea i know) and the same thing, no taskbar just stuck at the wallpaper.

so i turn off the computer pull out my boot disk for XP and use the console to the fix the problem using the command "chkdsk /p" which does fix it and i get the message saying one or more errors were fixed then the computer works fine

does anybody have any clue as to what could be the cause of this and/or a way to solve it without using the console which takes like 2-3 hours

any help would be greatly appreciated

This is sometimes typically known in servers, where a computer tries to load all the network settings and various other services, before it physically logs you onto the system, as opposed to logging you into the system and then starting all services.

Seems as the chkdsk command fixed the problem, it may have something to do with your operating system..i'll keep digging for info and come back to you.
