Help needed!

Hi,

My problem is my CD/DVD rom is only playing DVD's it won't play any music or data cd's.

Anyone any idea as to how I could fix it?
 
Is it just plain not reading them or what?

It is possible to loose DVD capabilties with a drive. My dad left a DVD player running for weeks on end by mistake, and soon after, it would ONLY play music CDs and VCDs... It wouldn't even read DVDs. My point is it's possible to go the other way around, I would beleive.
 
I had an NEC DVD/CD combo burner stop being able to read, erase, or write CD-RW's. Every other function still worked fine. Only solution for me was to replace the burner under warranty.

Looking to get a replacement but it is strange,

Has happened before and then all of a sudden it will work again.

Don't know what the problem is but replacement is looking likely!
