i have searched and havent been able to find anything about this. i am running xp SP2 when i start up my computer it say i have no virtual memory and that windows is creating a tempory paging file then it says how to fix it. so i go in to change my paging file and windows says i need to restart my computer. so i do that but then get the same message when i restart. the changes arent being applied

this could be due to improper shutdowns
it mostly prevents windows from saving settings properly
so after you reset the page file agree to restart later then manually restart from the start menu
if the problem persist try repairing windows

i always thought the virtual memory thing was always a ram issue. I used to get it on my old laptop as it did not have much ram and i was using demanding applications. i added more and it was fine.

Virtual memory is used when no physical memory is availabe (I think), since the virtual memory is coming from your HDD, it will be very slow. If your looking to increase virtual memory, in Windows XP/Media Center:

right click my computer and click properties, go to the advanced tab, click on the PERFORMANCE settings tab, click on the advanced tab, and on Virtual Memory click CHANGE.
