Hi everybody, I am new to the site and struggling on how to fix this computer.

First thing first, i do not know that much stuff on computers so bear with me.
My brother left me his computer 4 years ago and now i am trying to revive it.

Now when i start the computer it tells me that it cant start window because some of its
component was deleted or its corrupted so I need to re-install xp.
Now i am trying to re-install xp, trying to delete all the context thats in the computer as well.
I boot from cd, press enter to start installation, press F8 to agree, then press enter again to install
then I get the blue screen of death. Saying:

A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:
Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is identified in the Stop message, disable the driver or check
with the manufacturer for driver updates. Try changing video adapters.

Check with your hardware vendor for any BIOS update. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options,, and then select Safe Mode.

sorry if this question is redundant, been trying to fix this pc couple of times a year lol

Same blue screen of death pops up when i try to delete partition then it says:
Setup is unable to perform the requested operation on the selected partition. This partition contains temporary Setup files that are required to complete the installation.

When I press ENTER is goes to the same blue screen

Any help will be appreciated. Thank you.

i've had that exact same problem a week ago. i learned a lot about computers lately so i tried to revive my old laptop with windows xp and the same bsod came up for me.

long story short, i had a bad hard drive. i replaced it and now i have an extra laptop.

first i would try to unplug your hard drive, stick it in an enclosure, and see if you can even access the data using a regular computer. try to format the hard drive there. if it's successful (or says that it is), try to stick it back in the computer and fresh install. it'll say you have so much of unpartitioned space and you can install windows there.

fyi, i did that, but windows would get hung up during the install phase because my hard drive was just too old and broken. i bought a new hard drive and now everything is working fine.

good luck, and welcome to cf

thanks you guys for replying back, and Guardian i will try to do what you did but I think I have a bad hard drive as well. But Ill give it a shot.
