Help on Laptop decision

Hi, i'm a new user here and have a question for all of you. For my birthday my parents are buying me a new laptop. These are the three notebooks i've narrowed it down to and i'd like your opinion. Here they are.

LAPTOP MEMORY HARDDRIVE PROCESSOR VIDEOMEMORY
(all mobile)
Sony Vaio FS840 512MB 100GB Intel Pentium M 128MB(shared)

Gateway MX6425 1024MB 100GB AMD Turion 64 64MB(shared)

Gateway MX7118 512MB 80GB AMD Athlon 64 64MB(shared)

*Sony has 1.73GHz processor speeed and cost $1,149.99
*Gateway MX6425 has 1.8GHz prosessor speed and cost $899.99
*Gateway MX7118 has 2.2GHz processor speed and cost $969.99
**Gateway MX7118 also comes with a mouse and notebook case

Please tell me what you think is best. I like gaming, have a big music collection that would go on it, use it for school work, and want something that just performs well and is fast. Also how do the processors I listed compare? Which would be individualy the best?
Thanks a lot.

The Sony. Very good quality unit, the FS series is one of my favorites. Nice screen too. A very good all round mainstream system.

Not many laptops are geared for gaming...If you are into gaming I would recommend a desktop, as you can easily change the VC when the time comes.
Other than that, I would go for the Gateway MX7118.

Between the Gateways which do you think is best? The Sony has the lowest specs too. Is it best just because of it's name? Also someone please answer my processor question... Thanks

Yes. The reason why Sony has a higher price is because you are buying the name. Now I'm not saying that Sony Vaio's are bad because my dad has one that he has had forever. Good quality as stated above. The Gateway MX7118 has the best CPU. However, if you have a large library of media files, I would highly recommend a desktop. You can easily fill up a laptop with just media content... considering you are going to be using it for work and school.

The MX7118 has the best CPU, as already stated, (thanks GamerGuy8899), and is a good value. Light on RAM, but that is eaily upgraded. Sony is overpriced, not that they are bad, far from it, just not a really good value.:o

I'm going to get one of those Gateways, but does anyone know anything about that particular model? Also I already have a desktop, i'm not going to put all of my music libary on the notebook, just some. How do the Athlon64 and Turion64 compare? Doesn't the MX6425 seem better though b/c of the bigger hard drive and more memory? The MX7118's RAM is only expandable to 1536MB too. How are Gateways screens? I'm sorry I have so many questions, I just wanna make sure I get the right one.

Gateways arent that bad, I'd take them over a basic Dell. As for the MX7118, it's quite on the chunky side. Are you planning on gaming on them? or just multimedia tasks? As for the screens, I can tell you that the Sony screen is very nice. Some Gateways I've seen in the past were a little faded. The MX7118, I have not seen.

id get the turion 64
"Gateway MX6425 1024MB 100GB AMD Turion 64 64MB(shared)"
it has the most ram, and turion 64 uses less power than athlon 64 and its just as fast. probably performs a little worse than the pentium m, but the clock increase changes that. plus, its got a 100gb hdd and 1gb of ram. its the best choice id say.

I will be doing gaming and multimedia stuff. Do you think 1.8Ghz and 1G of RAM is fast enough for everything i'll be doing. What about the 64MB shared video card?

I just read that the graphics card it comes with is an integrated ATI Radeon X300. Is that good? Is it possible to upgrade video cards when they are already integrated?

No you can't upgrade the card. To give you perspective on the mobile graphics, the x600 will play Doom3 & BF2 around medium settings, x700 will play at high. But for x300 or x200, you may not want to play the game on that machine. You will be able to play things like Need for speed or NBA live.

Sorry to but in on his topic but I was wondering if a 'Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900 with up to 128MB RAM' would run a game like World of Warcraft?
Also is that sharing the 1GB of RAM or is it 128MB of its own?

So what is everyone's final decision between the Gateways (they both have an ATI Raeon X300 64MB shared graphics card). Give a reason why too.
Thanks for all of the help.

*I just read the specs again and it listed what the MX6425 had for wireless conectivity, but it didn't say anything sbout wireless for the MX7118. Does this mean it doesnt have any wire less conectivity?
