*UPDATE* Already been told that the 400w PS won't work, currently looking for a new one up to 40$, recommendations are welcome.

I have a used semi-old 400W power supply, is it enough for these parts ?

ASUS M5A97 AMD 9 Series

AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition

Patriot 4GB DDR3 (1333 Mhz)

EVGA GeForce GTX 550 Ti SuperClocked (1GB)

Western Digital Caviar Blue 500 GB

Sony Optiarc 24x DVDRW Drive

Cooler Master RC-430-KWN1 Elite 430

Yes this is the budget build from

Definately this ^

I have a 400W power supply,
I already had a PS and HDD so I didn't bought those..
You bought already?
I'm highly suspicious of that used 400watter. Your new parts could go bang. 26 12v amps is recommended for a system w/550ti. What machine did it come from, or whats the make and model of it?

a GOOD 400w PSU could probably handle that, but id probably go with something in the 500W range to be safe...

This likely would be overkill, but seasonic can make a psu

Dont get the 550Ti if you havent bought it, buy a GTX460, it will trounce the 550Ti

Thanks for your reply, its a used 400w.. and I already bought the 550Ti :(! but thanks anyway ^^..

Also what do you mean to be safe? You mean the parts could broke if I use that 400w supply ?

Thanks in advance-

If it's a cheap (and crappy) PSU, then yes, you could overload it and it could fry your entire system. I also vote on getting at least a 500W PSU.

Thanks for your reply, well I guess its crappy, because it was given to me when another one failed.. so I guess I'll have to get a new 500w one right ?

I would, yes. Look for high end brands like Antec, Cooler Master, Corsair, and Silverstone.
