Help please, black screen and whining

I have a laptop, Pavillion zd8000, and need help to fix it!

1. When i insert the power cord the computer starts whining.

2. When i boot the computer, the only thing i see is the boot screen (press f10,f11 and such)
and after the boot screen it only becomes black. The fan and lights are still functioning while it happens.
But when the power cord is unplugged the computer wont boot at all, even if the battery should be charged.

burn a live disk for a linux distro and see if it will boot to that. May be a hard drive failure.

As for not booting from battery. You may have fried the battery. if the ZD8000 was out near to the same time as ZE5200 ('01-'02), then chances are you reached or exceeded the length of use cycle of that battery.

i dont have a reader for the computer :/

but you are probably right about the battery

i tried remove the battery and start the computer, the whining went away, but still no progress
