Hi all,

I'm playing an online game and I discovered today my FPS is really really bad!! I've changed my system settings to increase performance which helped a little. I've read a lot on this and now I'm totally confused after reading articles on PCI slots v Express slots etc... I have no idea how to check what type of card my system will accept or what else I can do to improve performance.

This is my system info:
Operating System: Windows Vista™ Home Premium (6.0, Build 6002) Service Pack 2 (6002.vistasp2_gdr.091208-0542)
Language: English (Regional Setting: English)
System Manufacturer: Compaq-Presario
System Model: GU668AA-ABU SR5219UK
BIOS: Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG
Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4400+ (2 CPUs), ~2.3GHz
Memory: 2942MB RAM
Card name: NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430
Manufacturer: NVIDIA
Chip type: GeForce 6150SE nForce 430
DAC type: Integrated RAMDAC
Device Key: Enum\PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_03D0&SUBSYS_2A6110…
Display Memory: 1336 MB
Dedicated Memory: 121 MB
Shared Memory: 1215 MB
Current Mode: 1440 x 900 (32 bit) (60Hz)

Does anyone have any recommendations? Is it possible to upgrade my card and if so what type? Got some advice on another forum and it went completely over my head so if anyone can answer in not too technical terms it would really be appreciated :) Thanks

What is your budget?
Check your PSU. You probably need upgrade that for the new video card.
PCI-E x16 is what you need.

You actually should have onboard graphics, they stink for gaming. Do you know if your motherboard has a PCIe x16 slot? If not, can you get a picture of the motherboard showing the slots?

Edit- OK I finally found some info about your setup. You do have a x16 slot, good. Next thing is we need to know what kind of max budget do you have for this?

Also, if you could get some numbers off your power supply that would be great too. Need to know the wattage, and the 12v amperage.

Here's a decent card thats cheap, does not require much power supply (350w), and is 20 times better than onboard graphics-
