Just intalled a 160gb hd as a slave. Unfortunately system doesn't seem to recognise it. I have an old dell optiplex GX1. I've just updated the BIOS to the latest version but still no joy.

CAn someone tell me after I installed it and booted up the computer should it show up as a new drive with a different letter etc.

I'm totally stuck, someone please help and i'll be enternally grateful

System as mobo or as Operating system?
 
Read HDD 101 (Part 4 - problems, if you don't have time to read the whole thing). Also, go to your BIOS (usually DEL or and F key at startup) and check to see if the drive is recognized.
