Help Please!!!

I desperately need help….
I'm not really a computer expert or anything, I was just trying to help.
My boss's computer needed a new power supply 'cause the fan had become very noisy. It was also switching off and re-booting intermittently (It doesn't have a virus). So I took it home to put a new one in for him. I put a new power supply in and now it won't even boot anymore. I tried putting the old one back in, same problem. I reset the bios and it booted once, but I turned it off and back on again and it won't boot again.
I have to give it back to him tomorrow, any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you :)

I would check make sure all power cables are plugged in correctly.. Does the mother board support that power supply? For example P4 motherboards specifically need p4 power supplies..

Thanks Trizoy
I thought the same thing, but I plugged in his old power supply and it still wouldn't boot up even though it had worked previously but was just noisy.

First off, a little more specs on the machine are needed, CPU, RAM, PSU (old and new).

it's all at home, i'm at work, but here's what I can remember...
AMD Athlon 1.4Ghz CPU
256Mb DDR Ram
can't remember PSU :( they were both max. 250W output, input 240v
he's got 2 hard drives, 2 cd drives, 1 floppy drive plugged into the board

When you get home look at the PSU's and just find the make and model so we can get a bearing on what you were stickin' in there. If ANYTHING from what you've said it sounds like

A. BOTH PSU's are dead
B. Mobo could be shot
C. CPU could have fried.

Again, a little more info is required before you get a real answer (make and models of stuff IF you can) don't go ripping stuff apart just to find it if you don't think you can't get it back together.

thank you lord anthraX :) your help is most appreciated

the psu is still powering up the fans which are attached to the board so i don't think it's that

it booted up once this morning but i couldn't get it to do it again.

i tried uplugging everything, taking out the ram etc.. so i could get it to beep and then put everything back in one at a time hoping that would weed out the problem. but it doesn't even beep saying there's no ram :( but there's def. power going to the board

For that much going on 250W seems a bit on the light side- I'm running a 450 and I've only got 1 HD, 1 DVD/CD-RW, and 1 Floppy. but I'd agree w/ lord anthraX and say something is fried.

Does the PSU even turn on

For an older system like that a midrange 250W isnt off the mark too much. As for 450W PSUs .... no point in getting a 450W PSU is all the power is on the 3.3V rail ;)
