so i worked all day on this project for school with 4 other people in my group. We edited our videos in Pinnacle Studio 10 and made an awesome movie. it was insane. so its on my computer, and i was trying to burn it, but it was taking a ton of time because of a wrong setting i put. so i canceled and deleted what i thought was the old file but it wasn't. i deleted 7 hours of work. i haven't called my group yet, they will be so sad. i am almost crying.

is there any way to return to a past point on the HDD without making a restore point? any way at all?

you can use a file rescue utility, but that's gonna be a large file to try and rescue.

just by visiting this page just now you're overwriting it

not to mention i accidentally saved over it too, the pinnacle thing tied me up by asking a retarded question that i answered the wrong way. i am ready to kill myself

i need to return to a past point on the drive, i dont know if recovery will work

drive recovery will only work if you backed your entire drive up since you created the file.

windows restore only restores the registry, drivers, and windows components

oh well

i am gonna stay up till 3 in the morning remaking it, tell them i deleted it, but then tell them I redid it identically. it should take less than half the time

wish me luck

Sounds like you most likely overwrote your file. Its fairly unlikely that the file would still exist on the drive if you saved another large file after deleting the first one . . . but its always worth giving a free recovery program. I've had some luck with pandora recovery.

I can feel your pain.. I understand how painful it is to lose data. :( Try using a recovery program!

Let this serve as a lesson - BACK UP!!!
