Hi first off i don't no much about computers so forgive me if I sound dumb. Anyway I go to a prep school in PA, the school gives every student a laptop thats connected to the school network. I'm home on break, and i left the laptop in my dorm, but i need it to do a project is there anyway i can access the network without the laptop?

no, they probably have the network compleatly secure. i dont know how they have the network but for most schools and what not they will have a good firewall

It really depends on your school, but my guess is there's no way to access it... I know the university I go to has access to our "F" drive online, and some other students have remote access to terminals... But again, it usually depends on what you're in at school. I don't have remote access as some people do, only that F drive access.

This forum typically isnt allowed to discuss things like remote access. Who is to say someone isnt trying to get tips on accessing a computer that does not belong to them?

I think your best bet would be to contact the school and see if they offer any services that allow you to connect to the network remotely.

You would have to know specific network settings, IP addresses (which are probably dynamic anyway) and software configurations. It is possible, however extremely unlikely you would be able to accomplish this. Plus, your network is probably secured and most likely requires a VPN client for outside access, especially if they have money. I bet a prep school has a very nice budget with what they charge for tuition.

Get the laptop back. Now, if you have mobile home directories you may be able to access your home directory through whatever web front end your school has set up, that is if they have something like that set up.

Would be best

yes you can use remote desktop connection .

Yeah we know that, but you would need a program and to set it up at the other end,

i know that at my school you log via the home page and then you can log into your e-mail, that is it, because most kids have USB sticks now or external hards :P (me) and bring stuff home on that.
