Help Purchasing a New Laptop

I currently have a Dell Inspiron 5160 Notebook with 512 MB of RAM, 32-64 MB Video Memory, 60 GB Hard drive, and a Mobile Intel Pentium 4 CPU 3.20 GHz 1.85 GHz processor. I am looking to upgrade to a new laptop thats more suitable to gaming. (Why is it 3.20 GHz and then 1.85 GHz? Whats what here?)

One laptop I've had my eye on for a while now has been the HP dv9000t series. I've customized a version with the following specifications:

Operating System: Genuine Windows XP Professional
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo processor T7200 (2.0 GHz)
Graphics Card: 512MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 7600
Memory: 2.0GB DDR2 SDRAM (2x1024MB)
Hard Drive: 100 GB 7200 RPM SATA Hard Drive

How does this look? The only thing thats concerning me is the processor not being powerful enough. Do you think a Core 2 Duo processor T7200 2.0 GHz is enough?

Anyone? Basically what I want to know is how this 2.0 GHz Core 2 Duo processor will perform since I'm used to the Pentium 4's.

I've been considering the dv9000t series as well, only ive even considered lower specs, such as the 1.83 w/e ghz cpu...

From what I understand, that CPU you have there, the 2 ghz duo core 2 is SUPERB.... ive heard its the best as of yet... im not an expert, but even im settling just for the 1.83...

hope this helps...

Thanks for the response, thats good to know! I'm not familiar with the Core 2 duo's so I'm not sure how how compare the GHz to Pentium fours.

Although the GHz are much lower, the architecture is very much improved. Thus, the CPU can perform much better even at lower GHz...

P4 is kinda old.... I think Pentium D was after it, and then Core 2 Duo... so Core 2 duo blows it away

Well that explains why the GHz is lower. So do you think the computer specs I posted are good enough to be a solid gaming laptop:

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo processor T7200 (2.0 GHz)
Graphics Card: 512MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 7600
Memory: 2.0GB DDR2 SDRAM (2x1024MB)
Hard Drive: 100 GB 7200 RPM SATA Hard Drive

Another question... Why does the version CNET tested have a higher level processor than whats available when I customize it at hp.com?

http://reviews.cnet.com/HP_Pavilion_dv9000t_Core_2_Duo/4505-3121_7-32064897.html

If you look at the model specs at the bottom, the processor is a 2.16GHz Core 2 Duo T7400 which is unavailable at HP.

Also, do the RPM's inthe hard drive make a big differenence... between the 5400 RPM and 7200? I got the 100 GB which is the only one at 7200 but I don't really know what the difference is.
