I'm wanting to do this asap so hoping to get a quick answer.

I am installing vista on my WD740 HDD that I just got. Basically my question is this. can I install the HDD and format it in windows xp THEN run a cold start and install Vista on that HDD?

I wanted to basically have two C drives and boot which ever one I want depending on what OS I want to run. Is there a better/different way to format this HDD?

I'm assuming if I format the HDD in Windows XP that I will need to assign a different letter to the drive?

Thanks for the help!

Ok well got through that on my own. I have another question that maybe someone can try and answer this one?

I have 3 HDD on my computer. The 3rd is the new one I used to install Vista on. Well when ever I boot up XP now from the boot menu the HDD that use to be "E:" is now "F:". Also when I try to right click on anything on the desktop, like shortcuts, which are shortcuts to things that are installed on that F HDD which WAS E before gives me an error. Well it's a windows installer message. It states: "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable."

Does any one know how I can fix this problem? I think my only issue is I all the items that are installed on my F HDD (Which when they where installed it was actually my E HDD) are pointing to E but that HDD is labeled as F now.
