I just got a Toshiba L25-S119 laptop for watching movies. Every time when i try to play a DVD or VCD it takes a wile for the Mplayer to play the movie. Mplayer will popup and sit there for what seems forever and than the movie will start playing. The same DVD, VCD when i play it in my desktop it pops right up and starts playing. Samething with programs. I noticed same program (Word, excel, photoshop exc...)will take longer to start up in my laptop than in my desktop.

I was thinking maybe it is beause I don't have enough RAM. The laptop came with 256MB of ddr2 Ram and I am looking at another 1GB http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820208312 Will the movie start playing faster after i upgrade the RAM? Will I notice the change in the starting of the programs?

Please help.

P.S. The RAM on the above link. Is it just one 1GB stick of RAM or is it two of 512MB or more sticks?

You'll notice a difference in speed when you upgrade to this RAM (which is one stick). Another thing that may be hindering watching movies could be the CD Player on your computer. What speed is that?

If you really want to know the speed just eject your CD player and read the sticker on the top. I would think it has the speed on it.
