Hi all,

I have been looking around for an all-round type laptop for university; it will mostly be used for work, power points etc. but i will be playing the occasional game and might be doing some graphic design. Essentially i will need decent memory, processor and graphics card but also a solid wifi connection. I don't know a lot about network compatibility or anything like that so i would like some advice.

I would like to spend under $1500 and i found a decent Asus on ebay

I have been told by a friend that although on paper Macbooks don't appear to be as solid, they work a lot faster and considering how light-weight they are it would be great for university, i have also heard that they have a better battery life than most PC's. I would like a laptop that is 16" or smaller.

Thank you

By Brand new, i wouldn't buy off ebay, if anything goes wrong, what can you do??

I got a nice laptop for $966 after cash back - you can read more about my laptop at http://www.cohenl.com/cohen/laptop_setup.php

For what your wanting to do, i would go Laptop (PC) not a Mac, and a decent mac wouldn't be in your price range. Go for laptop with Windows 7, because it is fast and reliable.

And i see, your an aussie (just by the ebay link) - i am as well. I got my laptop from Dicksmith (DSE). I would recommend doing your shopping around and that is what i did, and i got a really good deal! I was very happy and have been happy with my laptop, no issues at all. I use mine for school, and everything, and it flies - i use my laptop for what you plan on using it for.

Just having a look at DSE quickly, you can get http://www.dse.com.au/cgi-bin/dse.storefront/4b49283502b1a370273fc0a87e01067b/Product/View/XC6403 and that is really good laptop!

Hope this helps.

Thanks for that, your laptop looks like a pretty good deal, i might check that out. Also the laptop on ebay is from an ebay store and is new, it is basically buying directly from a warehouse, plus it comes with a 2 year international warranty. I've been looking around a bit and at the moment jb hi-fi seem to have some pretty good deals.

Cheers

My dad got his Acer from JB - they are very good on prices.

Really?? 1 and a half hours battery life? That's really weird, my 6920G, which I'm sure has the exact same battery gets closer to 2 and a half hours...has it always been about that long or did it start better?

That is using the Network Heavily!

Without using the network, i'll get 3 hours of it, easily.
