Hello,

I just reinstalled windows from not having done so in a very very long time and everything went well except that the windows installation did not completed format the old hard drive and erase all previous files and programs.

Right now I have a fresh version of windows installed and running much fast but when I go to my old folder (which has not been erased) and see all the documents and programs files there and occupying more than 20 GB of space.

I cannot delete them because a lot are read-only and won't let me delete even if I change the permissions of the folder or file.

Does anyone have any suggestions at all.

Thank you.

Try deleting them through safe mode.

Run windows in safe mode and try deleting them, if that doesn't work then you can allways download a program that will delete any files, even if they're read only.

The freeware known as Unlocker 1.85 adds itself to Windows Explorer for this purpose. http://ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker/ Someone posted information on this in a response on another thread in the last day. When planning to clean a drive totall for a fresh install of XP or any other OS the best advice is to delete the existing partition or partitions on the drive and create the new primary for the clean install. The XP installer can be used for deleting the existing ones(MS Fat or NTFS) and creating new ones.
