Help! Removed 43K Viruses In Three Days

Rambo

New Member
Ok, so my friend has a PC that he doesn't look after very well. He flooded this PC with viruses, and he's managed to remove 43 thousand viruses in 3 days... Atleast, that's what AVG says...

Anyway, Windows keeps popping up saying that your computer is infected, and it's getting pretty annoying for him. I said that I may be able to help, and well, thought you could help too... :)

Here's a HiJackThis log which I thought you guys could take a look at.

You still have viruses on your computer, start with the steps in the sticky and scan with these and then post a new hijack this log. Scan with everything I post here and have them fix all, after you download spybot, ewido, and ad-aware check for and download all updates before you scan!

These are all bad, try all the online scanners and spyware removers and post a new log before you check anything with hijackthis.

maybe it's time for a reformat.....

Thats not always the way to go, there are viruses that can infect your memory and even after a reformat you will still be infected!

Some of them may be safe, but i've never heard of some of them. And i didnt look through the registry entries.

that many virus is bad news...the registry is probably fubar'd
learn how to reformat properly and do a RAM check and then come talk to me

ive yet to see a virus that remains in memory once you've restarted and booted from the windows xp cd and then began to format the drive which only involves looking at the file allocation table. im surprised the system even ran with that many viruses on it.
if you cant clear the system out easily i would suggest formatting the system

Well, thanks for all your help guys! His PC is now running better, and Windows isn't popping up saying that there is a virus.

Once again,

Thanks :)
