(and sxplog32.exe is not registered as a valid process)

Wow, I must have a virus on a fresh install of windows then cause I have spoolsv and smss.exe running on my comp and every other single comp I've ever serviced.

P.P.S. Advertisingvision adware - file is located in C:\Windows or C:\Winnt, and not in it's System32 subdirectory.
As said by the sites you showed. Both files are in the system32 dir. Meaning they are windows "crucial" files.

Then why are they showing up in hjt? If the ones dominicb has are valid they shouldn't be showing up, otherwise you would see them on every hjt log for every windows computer in the world the runs a hjt scan...

PS: sober.k also uses the file name...

Yup, and it's a windows system process in the system32 dir and a virus anywhere else. Mine also show up on HJT logs and so will yours.

they run on all my computers on my network, and they also run straight from fresh windows install (well almost, i didnt check for about 30 minutes, but i wasnt connected to the internet)

Obviously I appear to be wrong. My appologies... Thanks you guys for bearing with me. I'll have to do more research on the processes side of things in the future!
