Hello, i have recently restored my Toshiba Satillite A500( i think thats it) to factory settings, ( vista ). It has a Intel centrino 2 inside at 2.00ghz and 4gigs of ram. Anyways after the factory restore, i installed windows 7 ultimate on the machine. For some reason, i dont know why, the machine is running slow as hell, its constantly freezing, and apps take for ever to open.
is there something that can be done about this or is it that the hardware is too slow.

if anyone has any suggestions, please reply. thank you

did you installed the windows 7 or upgraded the windows 7?

installing windows 7 requires booting from CD and going from there to finish the installation in which case the vista will be completely out of system

upgrading windows 7 will be you boot from HD and go inside the vista and once you are inside vista you upgrade from CD in which case the vista will be in side folder.

if you upgrade i suggest do fresh install on 7 and also upgrade the drivers. from your spec the laptop shouldn't be very slow, least faster than what it was in vista if you run windows 7 in it.

I would look into your drivers, Windows is not very good a configuring your drivers for you to ensure your hardware works flawlessly with your OS.

yes i upgraded, thanks for the advice i will do a fresh install,

and thanks for the tip about the drivers, hehe, i never really bother with that stuff but now that you mention it i guess its worth messing around with

thanks again for your help guys, i will let you know if anything else goes wrong

thanks heaps effyman :]

OH!!! by the way... i almost forgot...
i wanted to ask someone about this and was wondering if you could help me,

i want to make a home server out of a old computer, ( pentium 4, about 2ghz, and 1 gig of ram) simple for file sharing, and backup, can you suggest a good os for it,?

i want it to be compatible with vista, 7 and xp( if possible).

Thanks again for all your help! ( sorry if this is the wrong place to post by the way .... kinda new.. heheh)

if you want to use files to be accessible just in home i think W7 will do fine with network sharing. one of the best future i love about W7 and reason i upgraded from XP.

I don't know if it's still around but Windows Home server is perfect for that. If you can't find it, any of the Pro versions of windows should be fine.

Hey guys thanks for all the help person1234 you were right windows home server was right for the job thank you

One more thing ( hehe sorry) about the laptop
I did a clean install like you said of windows 7 ( ultimate)
But the damn thing is still slow as hell. Is it because it's ultimate or is the laptop just a piece of crap.
Should I replace the laptop or get a lower version of windows 7?
Any advice what so ever would be Appreciated
And once again. Thanks for all the help!
