help speeding up computer

hi, i have a intel pentium 4 ghz processor
windows xp pro sp2
radeon 9550
256 mb of ram
70 GB of memory left
also i just reinstalled windows xp so its fresh
but i just bought a game called guild wars and it lags a'lot its not my internet because its good, but it lags a'lot, so i checked my system processes and the cpu usage was 100% so its just really slow. i did defragmenting and virus checking but nothing bad, so i was wondering what i should do to make it faster please help

Well, Your RAM is way outdated, id suggest adding(or replacing with) AT LEAST 1GB of memory... You need to find out whether its DDR or DDR2, but im guessing DDR...

Heres an example of what you could use:
CORSAIR XMS 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) Unbuffered Dual Channel Kit System Memory Model TWINX1024-3200C2PT

In addition, it looks like your Vid Card could use an upgrade.
Heres one, since you can only use AGP...:
eVGA 256-A8-N542-AX Geforce 7600GS 256MB 128-bit GDDR2 AGP 4X/8X Video Card

If you get any of the Vid Cards, you may need a new Power Supply...(unless you have 400W or more...)
Example:
Antec SmartPower 2.0 SP-400 ATX12V 400W Power Supply

So...
1)RAM
2)Vid Card
3)Power Supply

how can i tell whether its ddr or ddr2? does RAM really help my computer speed up more? because when im surfing the web i have a find fast experience but once i play a game like guild wars it lags like crap, please help also if i buy a ram do i just need to stick it in or do i need to dl drivers and install software and junk?
 
like i got it on 2002 havent upgraded anything except power supply, graphic card, and a reinstallation of windows xp.

also my memory ram said
DDR266
256mb

so if i buy it do i just need to stick it in? or do i need to do other stuff, also i can put 2 memory sticks in so cann i keep the 256 in there with the new card?

also would this memory do the job for my computer?
