help trying to connect two video sources

I am going to be buying a computer in the near future off of new egg and i want to be able to run my xbox (read: NOT 360) and my tower off of one monitor. I was going to do this by using a rca-3.5mm adaptor for sound and rca-vga adaptor for video.

Question 1: is this the best way to get good picture and sound out of my xbox?

Question 2: is there a vga box or splitter of some sort that i could use that would let me switch my monitor screen from xbox to windows without unplugging vga cables?
