Help w/ Firefox and Flashplayer

Greetings everyone. Let's cut to the chase:

I have a custom pc running Windows XP and have run in with a few problems concerning Firefox and Flashplayer over the years. The problem comes up when flashplayer attempts to update itself and install its newest version. Whenever it does this, flashplayer is (I'm guessing) not installed correctly or leaves behind its older ver. to conflict with the newest one.

I have tried running adobe's uninstall program and although it says it uninstalled all the versions that were there before, the newest version installed doesn't work.

I had fixed this problem before following advice from someone on a forum, but I have lost the link to the forum and am now unsure if the solution would still work. I have tried uninstalling and installing, tried to open the update program directly, tried downloading the updating client from other sites, have cleared caches-- I digress. There are so many things I have tried, I don't even remember what I did anymore.

So if anyone could suggest ANYTHING (no matter how small), I'd be glad to try and solve my problem with your help.

Thanks in advance,
Sheik

Yeah, the problem with that is, I think I already tried what that said. I'll try it again just in case and post the results.

So I found a problem with my flash player files:

Although I use the uninstall program and it clears everything, there is one file that always stays in place and which I have no access to delete. It's name is

"FlashUtil9g"
Description: Adobe Flash Player Helper 9.0 r151
File Version: 9.0.151.0

I'm going to look elsewhere for some answers, but any help that can be given as to deleting or leaving this file be, is much appreciated.
