Hi nrh62

From what i gather the situation is this, you have a motherboard with 2 sticks of 1 gb ram each making 2 gig in total and when you add a third stick of ram your computer crashes.

First what motherboard are you using as that would give anyone trying to help a start to finding out what the problem is.

Second how long does it take before the computer crashes, and is it always the same length of time after you turn the computer on or is it to do with a program you are trying to run and it only happens when you try to run the program.

For a start it could be(and i stress "could be" as we don't have a lot of information to work with here at the moment)a faulty stick of ram which only comes into play after a program has been activated which requires a decent amount of ram to work. The first thing you want to check is to replace the two sticks of good ram with the third to see if this is the problem(try taking out all the ram remembering which two are the good two and just putting the third one in on its own to see if its faulty). Another thing to consider is are all the ram the same capacity and speed as this can cause the computer to crash if they are different.

Without more information it would be difficult to diagnose the problem.

This could be a case of the motherboard requiring 4 sticks of ram to work well, i'm still not sure by what you are saying if you actually took all the ram out and only booted the computer up each time with only 1 stick of ram to find if one is faulty if any. If you are adding a stick each time you boot until the third one is added then this could be tricky to find out, only boot with one stick of ram at a time for now and see if any of them are faulty.

Ram has to be put into the correct slot to work well if at all, if you have got your motherboard book this will say where the ram goes for how many sticks you have. It is strange to hear of 3 sticks of ram as usually you have 2 or 4. If you have got another stick try adding that to see if the system works with 4 sticks of ram in it.

Let me know how you do.

P.S The blue screen with the white writing is know as a blue screen of death or BSOD.
