HELP!!! Will deleted files show up on new computer?

I have just bought a new computer and have a question about transferring files.

I have deleted files off my old computer - nothing illegal, just some naughty and personal things I don't want anyone to see ;) I already know that when you delete a file or internet browsing history it isn't properly deleted as a trace of it is still there.

The files I want to keep - iTunes folder, word docs, blackberry backup, excel spreadsheets, I have moved across to a portable hard drive. I will then use this hard drive to transfer the files over to my new computer.

So... what I want to know is - will any of the files I have transferred to hard drive i.e. mp4, jpg, and word docs, be "tainted" by any of these deleted files that I don't want to keep? Will there still be a trace of the files I have deleted somehow "attached" to the files I want to keep and thus be transferred to my new computer?

The thing is, I just want to have a new computer where I can wipe the slate clean and not be busted for any of the old stuff from my previous computer.

Bit convuluted, I can clarify anything if you wish, but any words of wisdom much appreciated.

Thanks.

Well Jonnybegood I can't say I really believe you I think your tring to hide illegal stuff. But just incase your not. There won't be any parts of old files on your other computer transfered to your new PC. To completely delete the files from your old computer you will have to overwrite the data at least 3 times.

There is software out there that gives one the capability to recover files even if overwritten three times. If old data is that sensitive on the hard drive I would either destroy the drive or use a program like "Darik's Boot and Nuke" to wipe all information off the hard drive.

If you are imaging the drive block by block then yes it will all move. If you are just copy/pasting a bunch of files then no there will be nothing.

Possibly, but it could just be an obscenely large collection of "art" :P

not that I have had any experience with it but from what I have learned it sounds like you have to put a good amount of effort into trying to restore files that were deleted. Ya deleting the files doesnt erase the data it just erases the link to that data so it cant be found by normal means. The only way I would be worried about someone accessing those files is if its someone that knows computers well and actively tries searching for them.
