I'm not sure if I'm having problems with Win XP or it's something else.
I had XP, installed Win 7 Home Premium Upgrade.(didn't like it)
Complete format of HD,reinstalled XP, all updates, including SP3.
Now when I open a web page,go to page 2(ect.)and then use backspace or
arrow to return to previous page nothing happens. It frezzes up. If I close out IE and then open IE,go to the site I was at it will work for a while, but then it frezzes up again.
Also when I go to some web sites like Facebook I'll get the messages from
AVG that it has detected high memory usage by the following application,
Windows Internet Explorer. Total memory used 205MB. and recommands to close out IE.
I'm about ready to toss this computer over the side of the hill.
I don't do any heavy gaming(simple ones like Bejeweled Two) or have a lot of extra programs on my HD.

Specs:
Asus P5Q MB
Intel E8400
HD/ WD Cavair Blk 750GB (sata)
2- Cd/Dvd burners
Kingston 2/ 1GB memory
PSU Corsair 400 W
Asus VH236 Lcd Monitor
Logitech cordless Trackball
Epson RX 700 (not installed yet)
Win XP- Sp3

I think that is all, if you need any other info to help me, please ?

Get rid of AVG, install either Avast or Microsoft Security Essentials. It's the new version causing those memory messages to come up. I just uninstalled it from one of my clients machines as well.

As far as the back button goes, it does that from time to time for me as well. Are you using IE8? If it bothers you, then you could try downloading either Firefox, Pale Moon or Chrome browsers.

Thanks john35, I had a feeling it was the AVG program that was causing problems. I'll uninstall it. As for version of IE, I think I have the latest version.I have used Chrome before so I might go that route.
Thanks again.

Re: john35, O.k. so I uninstalled AVG from the control panel. How do I uninstall the AVG
Secure Seach bar? It did not uninstall. I went to the control panel and it is not listed there.
Thanks

Thanks john 35, I tried that and the AVG search bar is still there. I'll check in tomorrow night to see if you or anyone have any more suggestions.
