help with bios settings on new motherboard

I have 1GB of DDR2-800 installed on an Biostar NF61S-M2A. In the BIOS, the settings for memory clock under "DRAM Configuration" is currently at Auto, default on auto looks to be 400. If I change it to "MaxMemClk," it can be bumped up to a max of 800MHz. If I change it to MaxMemClk and 800 and then put it back to auto the 800 will become shaded and cant be changed unless switched back to max. I was wondering if I should leave it on auto or set it to max for peak performance. Which is better?
