Help with building gaming desktop...

Hi, I am building my first pc. I have some knowledge of parts but it is limited.

I will be using it for games up to COD4 and internet/music.

Can any of you guys give advice on what I have selected? Does it all configure? Is there something you would change?

Any help appreciated. Heres what I have so far:

CPU: Intel Q9400 2.66GHz
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3 LGA775 P45+ICH10, FSB 1600MHz, DDR2 1366+, PCI-E x16 2.0(CrossFireX)
Graphics Card: Gigabyte GF9800GT Overclocked PCI-E 512MB, 256 Bit DDR3
PSU: Corsair 620HX ATX
Case: Thermaltake ATX Wing RS101
RAM: Corsair 4GB DDR2 non ECC
HDD: WD SATA 500GB
Monitor: LG 22'' 2ms LCD
Sound Card: PCI Card 5.1 Sound card
OS: Vista Home Premium 64 bit

I have keyboard/mouse/speakers.

Cheers.

You should change your motherboard or your video card. It just makes no sense to have a crossfire mobo with a nvidia card. The rest looks good.

What about a Gigabyte S775, P45, FSB1600, 4DDR2, PCIE2.0, GbLAN, RAID, UD3, ATX, SATA2? Would this be suitable?

Can't tell without a model number.

You may already know this, but in case you don’t. Generally, when configuring a system, people already have a preference for what video chipset they prefer. ATI or NVIDIA. CrossFire is ATI’s technology for running multiple graphics cards together while SLI is NVIDIA’s comparable technology. So if there’s a chance that you’ll add a second card in the future to upgrade your video buy a motherboard that supports CrossFire technology for graphics cards that have an ATI chipset or SLI technology for cards with a NVIDIA chipset. But if you’re fairly certain that there’s little chance of running two GPUs together in the future it doesn’t matter. You can run a single NVIDIA card in a CrossFire supported motherboard or vice versa.

Can tell you right now, thats an intel chipset=crossfire only. Although at this pricepoint, id go with a Phenom II 945/955, AM3 mobo, and ddr3 memory over a socket 775, socket 775 is basically a dead upgrade so to speak, as no new cpu's will be released to that socket, when you want to upgrade you would need a new mobo and cpu, not just a cpu. Which if you go AM3, an ati video card would be better for crossfire capability.

Yeah, I would have to agree if you're going for a budget build, go with a Phenom and go ATI for the GPU.

If you like the build in the OP, I would recommend going down to the 550VX. I would help save some money, although it's not modular.
