Help with CD ROM

I have no idea what happened but awhile ago i haven't been able to use my CD drive because anything i put in there can never be found. I took a look at it today, tried to uninstal the device and the driver itself, reinstalled everything, and nothing seems to be working.

I looked at my windows explorer today and noticed that it lists an A: drive but the D: drive (my CD-ROM drive) is not listed... and I have never had a floppy drive on this PC.

I'm assuming this is a device problem... any ideas? If i just get a new CD drive, will that solve the problem?

And now that i think about it, this may have happened after I downloaded Service Pack 2... do you think that could be a problem?

check to make sure the device is listed in your bios. depending on how many harddisk and cd drives you have it may be listed as primary slave or secondary master/slave.
