Help with chosing a video card

im sure there is some sort of forum already up asking generally the same question but i want to make sure that its machine specific because i don't wanna blow the cash.
I know enough about computers to get by but no wiz. I have a HP Pavillion p6600

I do play my fair share of WoW, LoL, Star wars, etc and i am just about fed up with the lag and slow frame rate. Looking at an ATI HD 4850, would that just go right in with no further upgrades? or should i even look at something else? wanting to keep it under $100.00. Thanks for the help.

That would be minimum upgrade, it's a really good PSU though.

So after mail in rebate you got about 75 bucks to work with which you can easily find a 4850 for. I would actually go for a 5770 or 6770 (same thing).


There's is also a decent deal on a 6750, which would be enough for your needs and probably about the same strength as a 4850 for $80 on newegg.

seems affordable. why would you recommend the 5770 or the 6770?
I was kinda leaning towards the 4850 simply because of the dual DVI ports. Although I want better graphics more than i want 2 monitors. lol

and all those cards will just fit in the slot that's available correct?
 
5770 and 6770 are the exact same things.

Most 5770's are dual slot cards, do you have anything in the slot below the PCIe x16 slot?

Just run the secondary monitor off the VGA (d-sub), you will notice no difference on a second monitor DVI vs VGA.
