my desktop was working fine

So no errors on the screen or anything, just to press ALT F2 to enter the setup? Seeing as it's after the IDE drive detection, I wonder if it's a bad hard drive. Have you gone into the setup and tried to re-configure the hard drives? Many setups have an option to either have an auto IDE config. Be sure this is selected unless you know the drives specs.

Also, it could be a bad CMOS battery. If the above steps seem to get it working, that's probably the case.
 
well i dont understand. when my brother tried to go in to the setups it wouldnt move. i dont see how this could of happend. it was working fine and i try to turn it on and it doesnt work. maybe ill just reboot it??
