Help with gaming build

Well I have a friend I'm building a computer for.
He is going to use it mainly for gaming. He is giving me about $600 to build it with. I'd like to have a C2D in this so if you could squeeze that in there, it would be great. I'm not very familiar with intel chipsets so its taking me a while to put together a parts list.
This is what I got:
Intel Core 2 Duo E4300 Allendale 1.8GHz
ASRock ConRoeXFire-eSATA2 LGA 775 Intel 945P ATX
G.SKILL 1GB (2 x 512MB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800
Rosewill RD400-2-DB ATX V2.2 400W
JetWay X19PR-ED-256M Radeon X1950PRO 256MB
COOLMAX CS-480-Black
SAMSUNG 18X DVD±R DVD Burner

Total $613

id go for a 7900GS

and a gaming computer for a 600 budget would be better off with an AM2 CPU like an AMD X2 because that total that you have is gonna be 800 with the OS, shipping and all said and done.

I think the graphics card is fine, and I'd go for Core 2, AM2 may be cheaper, but I think the C2D is worth the money. Now I see what you're talking about with not having enough money for the OS, but it's only $90 for home edition on newegg. I'm sure they thought about the OS before hand...at least I hope so. :P

he forgot the OS and i dont see an HDD but i probably missed it
if he doesnt have the OS and the HDD then it will come to 800 total shipped.

but AMD would be cheaper and get you better gaming performance for the budget so it depends what you really want

I'm using parts from his old comp so i got the hard drive covered. Also, hes got a legit XP CD I can install onto it.
I'm sure the X1950 Pro is better than the 7900GS by a decent margin and its slightly cheaper. I selected this C2D since it was the cheapest one and because it still beats the equally priced AMD X2 4200.

omg finally people are noticing that the 1900 line is better then the 7900 line. i dont get why people keep getting the 7900's when the 1900's prices have dropped into a margin where people can actually buy them on a budget now
