Help with hard drive

Hi

I've got a dell inspiron 1545, I've been having a few problem the last couple of days with booting of the computer - it turns on but sometimes does not start windows and a black screen just appears with the white mouse arrow.

I ran a diagnostics test and this error came up: 2000-0142

The laptop didn't boot at all last night after various trys.. The sad thing was I was going to back up all my data but didn't get the chance.. I am hoping tonight it might miraculously start. If not, are there any ways I can get to save my data bearing in mind I can't get into my laptop

Any advice and recommendations would be greatly appreciated!!

Most likely a hard drive fail from what I can see. Not sure about the data but it is possible in most cases.

There are several free applications that will recover some data, however a full recovery can cost thousands.
