Help with HDD sounds

Okay my HDD has been making weird sounds lately, sounds like one of the platters is grinding against something.
I recorded it with my phone and uploaded it to youtube so you can hear for yourself. Picture isn't great but sound is what you are after.

The grinding sounds bad, but I dunno, I could just be paranoid.
So guys, whats the diagnosis?

Thanks in advance.

I don't hear anything too bad... If I were you (and you have space somewhere) back everything up then run some tests on it. Find the tools from whatever brand makes the drive and see if it throws any errors.

Yea I agree with you; it does not sound good at all.
If I were you i would back up all your files on it while you can.
just keep on using it until it dies.

Yea I am going to do a backup of my important things soon.
What exactly is the point of freezing it?

Thanks guys. Maybe when it died I'll take it out and shoot it or something, but hopefully it just doesn't die:D.

Well that noise is coming from the bearings. meaning they are loose or something. When you freeze the HDD overnight and unfreeze it, it contracts and expands them. Which kinda fixes the bearings for a while.

Ha okay, never thought of that.
The sounds seemed to have stopped randomly, hopefully they will not come back.

Thanks guys.
