You broke the seal there somehow. The favored right off of the top of the list is Artic Silver 5 for a thermal paste. A newer product supposedly better and seeing a higher price is Liquid Pro. But if the thermal pad on the hsf was dryed up and gave out you may want to consider a 3rd cooler.

There's a few good ones out by both Zalman and Artic Cooling depending on the make and model cpu you are running. Besides newegg you can look over two other sites to get some ideas there. The first is found at http://www.coolerguys.com/cooling.html

Another site that always seems to have a larger variety is found at http://www.xoxide.com/cpucoolers.html

Once you have applied a good compound in the right amount to form a thin layer spread on the bottom of the hsf or top of the cpu itself and reinstall the sink you run the system for about 3-4hrs. and then shutdown overnight or simple several hours to allow the bonding to start as the cpu and hsf start to cool. Over the follwing few days keep an eye on the temps to make sure the application was good and see the temps start remaining in the normal range.
