Help with image editing

I have to do a business project for one of my classes and the first part is creating a logo. I am doing a soccer(football) shop called Soccer World so I was gonna do a soccer ball fading into a globe. I've got the two originals that are both the same size and resolution but i need help cropping the one and doing some kind of fade effect. I have fireworks at school so it would be helpful if someone could tell me what I can do with that. I don't have access to photoshop and I am working on a mac. Thanks for the help!

I'd like the ball to be slightly larger and the globe part be in the lower right hand corner of the logo.

but I want it to fade from the ball to the world and maybe do something with the world half to make it stand out less like a blur or something?

Yeah, just make one of the images's opacity lower then the other one, and merge them.

Thats what I was looking for! But I was kind of hoping to do it myself I need to use this in a project and I don't want to take credit for someone else's work

Get a free trial of Fireworks... Overlap them both and add a fade to one of them

Thanks for the help I finished this part of the logo now I just have to curve the text around it right and think up a slogan!
