Hi forum.

I've been meaning to install Ubuntu on my Toshiba laptop(it has vista -.-)
http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=4460

I have downloaded Ubuntu and installed it on my 2GB USB flash drive, plugged it into my laptop, but It wont read it.

On the boot tab, i've got this:
1:HDD Fujitsu MHY2160BH(S1)
2:FDD
3:CD/DVD Matshitadvd-ram uj-850S(PM)
4:LAN
5: USB Memory MultipleCard Reader 1.00
Shouldnt my USB be listed on the 5th??

I really don't know what Im doing wrong.. :(

Every bit of help is appreciateed.

Is your flash drive plugged in before the computer is turned on? Have you tried selecting option 5 just to give it a try?

I've tried selecting the 5 many times, and yep the drive is plugged in before i start up the pc. I've even had it in the pc while logged in and then restarted the pc, then going into boot menu

Does your mobo support usb boot? Also are you sure you installed it correctly to the drive? I personally use lili live usb creator and have never had an issue with it.

Alright, I burned ubuntu to a cd instead, and the laptop reads it as it should. After a Ubuntu loading screen i get to a black window with a command prompt, it says BusyBox v.1.18.4

If this is where I install the OS I really don't see how.

Reboot and try the liveCD option again. If you get a blank command prompt, try typing "startx" (without quotes) and see if that works.

Now I get stuck at the Ubuntu loading screens with red and white dots. Won't get any further than that.

This must be the most problematic thing I've ever done on a computer :(

What speed did you burn the disc at? The faster it burls, the more errors it's likely to have.

I can try to burn with Nero since it has more options.

Regarding the USB, i extracted the Ubuntu 11.10.iso with the application recommended at the Ubuntu download page, Pendrive or something like that.
When I try to install via USB, it says "Loading /casper/vmlinuz for a while, then a bunch of error messages appear.
