i have downloaded a file with the extension .iso. the problem is, i do not know how to extract the files from this. could somebody please help me.

You can opn up ISO files using...

You can either burn that onto a DVD/CD depending on its size using Nero/CloneCD/Alcohol120% and more. However, if you want to see the contents, you can install WINRAR and view the contents.

Manual extract won't work?

If you have software, you might be able to do that, but ISO's are usally made to write everything to a disk. Sometimes these even include the files to make drives bootable. These files won't work if you just say copy the files from a disk...(which is basically what would happen if you extract the file)

In my personal experience Alcohol 120% is the best for making & burning images files such as .ISOs for example. You can have a look at: www.alcohol-soft.com.

As "PuddleJumper" mentioned above, ISOBuster can also be used to extract files from the ISO as well as other images files. www.isobuster.com

What kind of ISO is it? Why are you downloading stuff like this? Isn't this illegal?
They never said what it is an iso of. Iso's aren't illegal in and of themselves, only when they contain unpaid copyrighted material. They could have downloaded an iso of...let's say, Linux, and it would be perfectly legal.

If it were a Linux Distro he would want to burn the ISO not extract from it. Any way If he is running WINRAR it more than likely associated WINRAR with the ISO, and that's why he wants to extract from it.

he wont be able to extract with winrar if it is oh say a certain console that starts with an X and is made by microsoft.
