Help with laptop purchase

Well as the title says I am looking for a laptop.
I have a pretty small amount of knowledge when it comes to computers so I was just looking for some guidance.
I am looking for a gaming laptop first and foremost.
It doesn't have to be the hottest, fastest, newest thing, and I know it won't be since my price range is somewhere around $1000-1200
I was looking at something like what I have below but if you see something unnecessary or something I should look into let me know please.
I can get 5% off this purchase. I am in the Air Force so if you know of any good military discounts let me know please.
Thanks

Also the HD would be upgraded to 500GB 7200 for free. Also I was possibly thinking of going up to a Blu-Ray drive? Unecessary $120 cost?

I had been looking on newegg but at that time was looking for something cheaper, but I might reconsider these.
Have you looked through aafes and through ibuypower on there to see if there are any good deals there?

aafes? Are you talking about your local BX? I am in the Navy and we have a Nex and I would never buy a laptop there. Just me. I dont know about ibuypower, I had a buddy who bought from cyberpowerpc and it was a good laptop but i don't know how they manage through the long run of things.

I would stick with a major brand and I have dealt with ASUS customer support in the past on a netbook a bought from them and they by far were the better tech supports I have dealt with. The laptops I gave you will run any game out there that I know off on pretty good setting. Let us know which one you end up getting.

Ah ya sorry.
I was just talking about online ibp had a deal going through aafes.
But I think I am leaning more towards this asus, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834220702
I only see a few advantages over the Sony such as, screen size, HD, sound, and I think thats all I really noticed?
I was considering this one before too. About $400 less and don't notice much of a difference except processor?

Ok I am pretty close to deciding on the Asus you recommended but was wondering what type of warranty I should get through newegg? Im having a bit of a hard time understanding them...
It already comes with a 1 year accidental damage, parts, and labor warranty but beyond that, what would be good?
And hopefully the last thing, I just looked on ASUS' website and this laptop is listed as a multimedia laptop?
What makes this less of a gaming laptop and a multimedia one?
Would I be able to get one more geared towards gaming for cheaper or around the same price? thanks

So I am going to be honest with you, the other one you are looking at is a acer, they are not the best built laptops and are no where near the level of quality of ASUS. Get the ASUS, plus you want to buy as high end as you can right now so in a year or so you can still play the latest games, that is why I am pushing you towards the i7.

Warranty is on you, I know for myself I do not need a accidental warrenty, I have been in the Navy for 4 years now and with all the moving around I have done I have never broke a laptop. I also do like to buy some form of hardware failure warranty. Well use to, I just install Linux now on all my laptops which I believe voids my warranty so it doesn't matter for me anymore. If you are going to buy a warranty get the one that has to do with your hardware failing on you, not the one for accidental cause that is not going to cover you if your HDD takes a crap.

For your price that is the best gaming laptop your going to get. Don't pay attention to what they call it, I checked it out for you and it has all the things that are key for gaming being i7 cpu, ATI HD GPU, DDR3 RAM and a 7200 rpm HDD.

Alright thanks for all the help. I had heard some bad things about Acer but nothing to discourage me from purchasing, but I will just have to take your advice then.
Hopefully I make the right purchase seeing as $1200 isn't just pocket change...

ASUS builds some of the best quality laptops on the market, it will last you a long time, and with those specs it has many years of gaming in it. Enjoy my friend.

Well I will be purchasing it as soon as I can figure out why newegg is not letting me register for the preferred account or the pay later thing.
