Help with new formac 160GB

Help! I'm a bit of a dunce with these things ...............
I just bought this hard drive. Has a little set of instructions but my problem is coming before that - I plug the thing in, go to 'my computer'......and it isnt even registering. Can't find it!
What to do here .........?

You have to partition and format it before it will show. Administrative Tools - Computer Management - Click Disk Management on the left - Click on the disk at the lower left - Partition and Format.
