Help with RAID 1 configuration

Hi

I've got an Asus P4V8X-X motherboard and I've had a Maxtor 160Gb SATA HDD connected for a few months.

Last week I bought the exact same HDD and set up a RAID 1 for mirroring.

However, the mirrored HDD no longer appears in My Computer in Windows. Is this normal?

The BIOS and the VIA RAID utility detects it and says it's on a RAID 1 but I don't know for sure.

How do I know that it's mirroring the source drive since I can't see the drive?

Thanks

You don't, really. The only way to tell is during the RAID BIOS post it will tell you whether the array is functioning or not. Other than that you just have to trust that it's doing it's job.

Well I took the mirrored drive out and connected it to my other PC externally and Windows detected it and I was able to browse the files.

And yeah, the PC with the RAID was switched off when I did this so I won't have to sync both drives.

But by disconnecting it and connecting it to another computer....will this damage it in anyway? Sorry to sound stupid but I just HAD to know if it was doing its job!
