Help with RAM compatibility

My current computer has 512mb DDR SDRAM, and I have an older computer with 512mb ECC SDRAM. Both computers are made by DELL.

Can I take the RAM from the old computer and add it to the new computer? Is there compatibility issues with the different types of RAM? Is this even a good idea?

You cannot have both operating together, and I highly that the Dell will even take ECC. But there is no reason why you can't just try it, it won't mess anything up.

edit: if the older RAM is not DDR, then no, it won't even fit into the newer computer.
