so i'm upgrading my uncles computer a little bit. i'm plannin on putting some more ram and maybe a new hard drive. what does it mean when it says that the ram is 184 pin or 240 pin and how do i know which one i need?

also for the hard drive, to transfer all the data on the original hard drive will i just have to put it on a cd and install the new one then transfer it over? is there an easier way?

good for you to help out ur uncle,

184 pin ram is DDR. 240 pin is ddr2.

You NEED to use the ram type thatis already on your uncles motherboard. for ex. you can't put 240 pin into a 184 slot.

For your hdd, do u want to replace the hdd? or want to add it in? i would suggest you just add it in.

If you tell us your Uncle's computer model or the motherboard specifications we can help guide you to the RAM that will work in his system.

well thats the thing.. its a dell and its only a year old but he bought the cheapest one possible because he just uses it for his store.. so its a dell..i thought the model said D050 or something like that.. and i tried to look it up but couldnt find it.. i'll go to his computer tomorrow and make sure what the model and mobo is

If his motherboard can support either...

You can't use DDR and DDR2 at the same time.

ok i found out that the cpu is intel(R) celeron(R0 CPU 2.53 GHz
with only 254 MB of ram with very little hard drive

so i'm plannin on getting a new hard drive and either a gig or 2 of ram but i was also wondering if that cpu is any good? he only uses the computer for his business for a program called quickbooks pro.

i found the product make as well its a Dell DE051.. any help plz?

this is what i'm lookin at for adding in.. hows it look?

also for the current hard drive, he has a bunch of stuff on it that he needs to keep for his work, and i opened up the comp and looked at it but theres only one spot where i could maybe put a hard drive in and thats right below the cd-rom and i'm not even sure if it can go there. other than that spot theres only the one place for a hard drive to go. so am i going to have to transfer all the data somehow or is there a way i could put it in there still?
