Help with renaming all of XP

Ignorance

New Member
Hi. I have used the English version for as long as I can remember. However, I have installed the Turkish version to use and learn some terminology. Not to my surprise, the Turkish version is filled with neologisms that makes one's ears bleed. This is practically true of the whole modern language. Language aside, I would like to "retranslate" all of Xp into words that I have come up with. I would just like to know how to do it. I can't rename "run" for example. Please help me out here.

If you installed Turkish version of Windows XP, you can not change operating system language.
The only way to get it in English is to install English version of Windows XP.

You have no idea what you are talking about. Go download the MUI and install it over the English version, then select your language and the whole OS switches over. I did this, however, I do not like the made up words for the Turkish version of XP. Like "run" is "çalıştır", i want to make "run" have a different corresponding word in Turkish. Basically I want to retranslate the whole goddamn Turkish OS.

This doesn't make sense. You say you wanted to install the turkish version so you can learn some terminology. But then you say you want to rename menus/words???? You would be better off entering the words into a translator.

I have just come to the conclusion that you are indeed a troll. I stated that I had MUI up and running and yet you still doubt me. I want to know how I can rename all of Xp.

Ignorance is right about MUI. Please do not be so rude about it though.
There isn't a way to change the words on things in the OS, it's just the way it is. Sorry.

Sorry lucasbytegenius but i do recall you can change the wording of microsofts GUI operating systems as I have experimented and changed the "start" icon in windows XP to "begin" then to "commence" just for a laugh :P lol.

Registry, right? I thought you could do it, but I wasn't sure. I don't post things I'm unsure about, at least most of the time. Thanks for clearing it up though.

Sorry about the long wait i've been pretty busy. I'm not at home atm (at work) i will post a detailed instruction on how you would go about changing the start menu once i get home. :)

Ok here we go you will need a program called "reshack" so download that if you haven't already got it then just follow these simple instructions to change the "start" text to whatever you want.

1. Open "%windir%\Explorer.exe" file in Resource Hacker.

2. Go to:

"String Table -> 37 -> 1033 -> 578" (If you are using Luna theme)

"String Table -> 38 -> 1033 -> 595" (If you are using Windows Classic theme)

3. You'll get a string "start". Just change it with whatever text you want to show. Make sure you put quotes.

4. Compile the script and save the file. That's it. You are done.
