Help with running programs on computer startup

I just went from XP to Win 8. There used to be an autoexec.nt. What file would I access to have a program load on startup?

Find the autoexec.nt file, copy it, and paste it into your WINDOWS\System32 folder.


  1. Enable the viewing of hidden files.
  2. Locate and navigate to the folder containing the autoexec.nt file.
  3. Right-click the autoexec.nt file.
  4. Verify that you are right-clicking the .nt file and not the autoexec.nt shortcut.
  5. From the drop-down list, select Copy.
  6. View the drives on your computer.
  7. Double-click the icon of the drive on which Windows is installed.
  8. Double-click the Windows folder icon.
  9. Double-click the System32 folder icon.
  10. Press Ctrl+V.
  11. Click the Continue button.
  12. Restart your computer.
Note: By default, Windows is installed on the C: drive.

There are MANY ways to start a specific program on Windows OS startup.Here is the most simple one for you which I can currently think of:

Make a shortcut of your program (the one which you want to start on Windows OS startup) in the start menu STARTUP folder.The location for that folder on Windows XP OS is the following:

C:\Documents and Settings\YourUserAccountName\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

The location(s) for that/those folder(s) on Windows 8 OS is/are the following:

C:\Users\YourUserAccountName\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\StartUp



I really don't think it can be more simple than this lol. :D
